Episode 128 of Down to Business podcast
When Facebook announced it was changing its name to meta, a nod to the idea that more and more of our lives are moving online to a so-called metaverse, some people understood immediately.
For the uninitiated, blockchain is the technology underlying bitcoin and various cryptocurrencies, but which can also be used to write ‘smart contracts.’ It’s like a public ledger that can establish ownership of something on the internet, but to Lou and others, it could potentially revolutionize the way the metaverse is developed.
Lou, a journalist and contributor to the Financial Post who writes frequently about blockchain, explained why he thinks the technology holds so much promise and offered his perspective on why it’s already important but bound to play an even greater role in the future. As always the interview was edited for clarity and brevity.
